Wake up and spot the glimmers
A picturesque post-sunset cotton candy sky.
The smell of flowers wafting in the breeze.
Waking up to the sound of birds chirping.
A meaningful hug.
A soft blanket.
A belly laugh.
one of my glimmers…can you spot the butterfly?
/ Glim·mer / (noun): small moments that bring joy to one's day to day life.
These fleeting experiences don’t just leave you with a smile, but an actual boost in dopamine, serotonin, and oxytocin. AKA the happy hormones.
When it comes to glimmers, there’s good news and bad news.
The good news is that there are endless amounts of glimmers waiting for you every day.
The bad news? They often go unnoticed.
It’s like when you’re rushing from work to an event and miss the sun setting right in front of your eyes. Chances are, the busier and more distracted you are, the less glimmers are in your life.
It’s only when you start to practice presence that more and more of these charmed moments pop up. Glimmers can only come to be when you are noticing. Noticing all the little ways life is happening around you.
You may have heard of the 5-4-3-2-1 technique for easing anxiety. Noticing five things you see, four things you can touch, three things you hear, two things you can smell, and one thing you can taste. What if you just notice one sensation? One sensation making your life ever so slightly more enjoyable.
Maybe even still, there’s a little voice in your head saying things like, how can I notice, how can I be present while meeting the demands of my chaotic everyday life?
Here’s the thing: glimmers thrive in the light of gratitude. So you can start by incorporating a daily gratitude practice into your routine. Jotting down 5 things you’re grateful for at the end of the day, whether it’s in your Notes App, on the sticky pad by your bed, or in your favorite journal.

You might surprise yourself with how much you already notice and appreciate about your days. You might even find your list growing day in and day out.
And in time, glimmers will start to fill the gaps in your days. Appearing as if to thank you for having a grateful disposition towards your life.
