Therapy Buzz Words
Embodying our practices
Healing.
Inner Child.
Shadow Work.
Presence.
Boundaries.
Nervous System Regulation.
Powerful words given meaning only through embodiment.
Maybe right now, they are just words. And that’s perfectly fine. But maybe some of them are ideas you’ve already started to work through. Transforming words to ideas that have meaning and in turn implementing those ideas into a daily practice can be intimidating.
Not to mention time consuming. Overall, it’s a lot of work.
There are many ways to interpret certain ideas and the meaning might differ from person to person. Understanding what these words mean for you is the first step. Continuing the conversation through therapy can then pave the way to open up a deeper transformation within. It all starts with showing up for yourself.
Showing up for yourself starts an internal dialogue between your body and mind, creating the feeling of safety; an inner knowing that you are cared for. That someone is looking out for you. That person who should be constantly looking out for you… Is you.
Intelligence is knowing the techniques to cope with the internal and external pressures of the world. Healing doesn’t happen here. Healing happens when the teachings are ready to be put into practice.
Embodiment.
Integration.
“Healing.” There it is again. Another – arguably overused – buzz word that threatens to lose meaning from overuse. Healing is about showing up for yourself, but the word itself resonates differently from person to person.
The integration process might look like introducing a breath technique into stressful life situations as a coping mechanism, or self-reflection at the end of a long day. It’s a choice. How you choose to live and breathe into the present moment.
Practical Exercises:
Pick a therapy buzz word (maybe one from above, maybe another you’ve come across) and write what that word means for you.
Ex. How do I define the word “healing”?
Take a moment to decide what emotion arises with that specific word and meditate on the feeling.
Ex. The feeling I correlate with the word “healing” is one of peace. I will spend the next five minutes sitting with the feeling of “peace” and let everything else fall away.
Come up with one way you can embody that word in your day-to-day life.
Ex. I know walking brings me peace. As a method to aid inner healing, I will spend at least 10 minutes a day on a technology-free walk.
